I am 36, Irish and live on the West coast of Ireland.
Not so long ago I realized that, like many people my age, my identity was becoming subsumed and defined by my work. Up to mid-2007 that work was as a serial entrepreneur / intrapreneur, working in start-up teams in the Business, NGO, Philanthropy, Education, Media and Health sectors in Ireland and Australia. Mostly, I loved this career - there is a unique thrill from sketching a few ideas on a piece of paper, getting others excited about those ideas and then working as part of a team to turn these plans into reality.
However, rewarding as this type of work is, it can also be draining. The alchemy of creating something out of nothing requires large investments of passion and imagination and after 10 years of making these investments, I was finding the well close to running dry.
So in September 2007, I put the career on hold for a while to sample the colour, life and magic of Latin America. For two years this region was my home and a source of multi-sensory stimulation that has also helped me to find greater balance in my life.
I have created this website as a creative project of personal self-expression but it also links to two other websites that I have been developed with other purposes:
- Fuego y Agua is a collection of travel writing, drawn from my explorations of America.
- Hero School is the home of the Become Your Own Hero series of courses which are currently being piloted in Central America and the Caribbean islands.
